On the plateau above the cemetery stands St. Michael's Chapel, which has been visited as a venerable place of pilgrimage for centuries. It was once endowed with special privileges, saw war, murder and fire, was often half in ruins and was occasionally taken over by other powers. Miraculously, it escaped destruction by firebombs during the last war. The exterior of the chapel remained almost unchanged, but a canopy was added over the entrance to make it more visible. Inside, the original stone altar was uncovered. Under the window with the image of St. Michael, the patron saint of warriors and the fallen, a stone table was added to hold the casket with the book of honour. The cemetery and renovated chapel were consecrated on 14 September 1952 after around two years of construction.
