The Blumau military cemetery is located on the Sollenau-Neurißhof main road on the edge of a military training area, right next to the municipal cemetery. 4.001 war dead of the Second World War and 435 dead of the First World War (comrades' grave block 3) have found their final resting place here. Most of them were transferred from the Wiener Neustadt area. Located in the Vienna Basin on the territory of the market town of Schönau a. d. T. and the municipality of Steinfelden, the site covers an area of 14,400 square meters and is the last collective cemetery in Austria to be developed by the Volksbund. The cemetery, divided into four blocks with natural stone crosses made of Waldviertel granite, is shielded from the surrounding area by an inner wall that can be planted and a wide outer protective and framing planting that serves to create space. Access to the cemetery is through an entrance building with visitor and care facilities. A forged high cross standing in the center of the complex towers over the cemetery grounds. The inauguration of the Blumau military cemetery took place on September 14, 1985. The cemetery was transferred to the care of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior on 01.01.2011.
