The state-owned Hermsdorf I cemetery, which is only approx. 0.6 ha in size, was consecrated on November 24, 1876 with the burial of the worker Christian Rahn. The old cemetery was closed and leveled in 1905. Once laid out in an open field, the cemetery is now surrounded by detached houses. The chapel in the center of the cemetery is architecturally reminiscent of a basilica. 32 Dutch victims of the Second World War were laid to rest in Hermsdorf I Cemetery. They were moved from their original burial site to this cemetery by the French occupation authorities in 1946/1947. (Martin Bayer, 23.04.2020)
