The Protestant Magdalenen cemetery was designed as a park cemetery. The former grave of honor of the local politician and Rixdorf town elder Benjamin Niemetz (1853-1910) is located there. The new Magdalenenkirche was built in 1877 on what was then Bergstraße (now Karl-Marx-Straße) and opened on March 25, 1879. in 1917, the bells were removed and melted down for use in the war; these bells were replaced by steel bells in 1928. Only the stained glass windows were destroyed during the Second World War. However, the baptismal font, which was created from part of a capital from the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, which was destroyed in the war, is a reminder of the war. More than 100 victims of the Second World War were buried in the cemetery, including in an 8 m² collective grave. (Martin Bayer, 20.04.2020)
