This military cemetery is mainly home to German soldiers who died in Hersfeld military hospitals. It is located on Meisebacher Straße, almost in the center of the town. After thorough preparations, which began in 1949, the cemetery was extended in its present form in 1956/57 and provided with permanent grave markers. The inauguration took place on September 22, 1957. Beiershausen district In the Beiershausen district, the state government and the Volksbund built a cemetery for 453 foreigners - mainly Poles and Russians - who died during the Second World War in 1960/61 and opened it to the public on May 14, 1961.
