General information
The park-like cemetery was laid out in 1874 and has been located in the city of Augsburg since 1911. From 1913 to 1915, extensive new construction work was carried out. Over the years, the western cemetery has been extended again and again.
Interesting facts
A burial ground for around 400 soldiers and a large number of bomb victims was laid out in the West Cemetery during the Second World War. After the war, a further 500 victims were buried in makeshift graves.
There are currently 2,028 dead from the First and Second World Wars buried here, including 453 foreigners and 235 concentration camp victims. Other war dead also lie in the Protestant cemetery in Haunstetter Straße, in the Göggingen and Haunstetten cemeteries and in the Haunstetter Straße and Hummelstraße Israelite cemeteries.
