In the forest of Nestahl, a district of Nahrendorf, is the grave of the Soviet prisoner of war R. M. Jastschuk, who drowned in the Elbe on July 4, 1944 after harvesting work. As he was refused a grave in the Nahrendorf cemetery, the innkeeper Friedrich Saucke buried him a day later in his forest in the presence of his comrades. The very well-kept war grave is easy to find. From the street Am Alten Rundling, park in a meadow at house no. 10. At the southern end of the meadow, a path leads uphill into the forest. After about 250 m, you will reach a spur on the hill. Continue straight on, now slightly downhill for about 200 m until you reach another crossroads. From there, continue on the right-hand path. After 20 m you will find the fenced grave on the right-hand side. A small memorial plaque on a tree indicates the history of the grave. photos: Volker Fleig 2014
