Galini, Olaine Pagasts. Olaine Novads. This is a forest cemetery and requires driving on unpaved roads. From route A5 (E77) heading east, take the Plakanciems turn-off. This road becomes a loose dolomite road. Travel through forest and country houses and cross the Misa River. On arrival in Mellupi, take the 1st right turn towards Darzinieki. Before Darzinieki pass the Lelmelup II war cemetery. Drive through Darzinieki and continue west on this road without taking any turns. This road becomes a sandy track or dirt road in parts. You will pass: Farms, country dwellings go through forests and pass horse stables. This road will take you to Galiini, which is located in a forest enclave. Upon arrival, note that most of the dwellings are on the right side (north side) and the access to these buildings are grass roads. Take the grass road and cross a small stream after leaving the housing area. Walk about 20 meters through grassy gardens etc. into the forest. Directly in the forest, past some camps, you will see a wide west-east path. Follow this in an easterly direction until you reach a junction with a path heading north. The small cemetery then becomes visible Note: about 40 meters from this cemetery is a monument to Finnish fighters who died and are buried in this cemetery. It was erected in 1925

Here rest 21 German and 3 Finnish fallen of the 27th Royal Jäger Battalion. The majority of the German fallen served in Infantry Regiment 27. 5 unknown Russian soldiers from 1917 have also been laid to rest here. These names and details are recorded on 4 concrete plaques installed in 1938 The earliest grave in November 1915, deaths at this time are likely to be during the offensive to establish the front line in late 1915. Most of the graves are located during 1916, with 2 graves from 1917 during the period of the 8th Army Counter Offensive in late January 1917. Information, trail description and photo: Nick Hare
