Open all year round

The Blumau military cemetery is located on the main road Sollenau-Neurißhof on the edge of a military training area, directly next to the municipal cemetery. 4,001 war dead of the Second World War and 435 dead of the First World War (comrades' grave block 3) have found their final resting place here. Most of them were transferred from the area around Wiener Neustadt. Located in the Vienna Basin on the territory of the market town of Schönau a. d. T. and the municipality of Steinfelden, the site covers an area of 14,400 square meters and is the last collective cemetery in Austria to be developed by the Volksbund. The cemetery, divided into four blocks with natural stone crosses made of Waldviertel granite, is shielded from the surrounding area by an inner plantable wall and a wide outer protective and framing planting, which serve to create space. Access to the cemetery is through an entrance building with visitor and care facilities. A forged high cross standing in the center of the grounds towers above the cemetery. The Blumau military cemetery was dedicated on September 14, 1985. The cemetery was transferred to the care of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior on January 1, 2011.
