In the middle of the forest between tall trees and a gently murmuring stream lies the small, atmospheric military cemetery, which opens up as a place of silence, peace and contemplation on a sparse forest meadow. The cemetery of honor was established during the First World War for 21 soldiers who died in the lung sanatorium (then military hospital) in Bischofsgrün. Later, Dr. Paul Dürrbeck, the head physician of the sanatorium at the time, had a bell tower and memorials erected for those who died in the three major wars since 1870. Gently curving paths lead to the gravestones, and the shady groups of trees give the cemetery of honor a dignified and atmospheric setting.
