Département Pas-de-Calais 1,683 German war dead 1 Russian fallen First World War Created by the German troops in 1915. The Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 244 and the Electoral Hessian Jäger Battalion No. 11 erected a memorial stone to their fallen comrades during the war. After the war, French military authorities brought German casualties here from villages in the area south-east of Billy-Berclau. In the 1920s, the Volksbund planted birch trees and shrubs, laid out the entrance area and erected a memorial with a bronze cross on top. in 1974, the wooden crosses were replaced with metal crosses.
