Those who died in the battles near Bertrix on August 22, 1914 were buried in the Heidefriedhof and Waldfriedhof cemeteries between 1916 and 1917. The forest cemetery was closed during the Second World War. After reburials, the Volksbund enlarged the heath cemetery in 1957. 254 Germans and 264 Frenchmen from the First World War now rest here.
