Total Occupation: 533 fatalities

Total Occupation: 533 fatalities

The 5.1 ha Sophien Cemetery III was laid out between 1863 and 1878 as the third cemetery of the former Sophien parish and is located on the border of the districts of Pankow, Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding. The neoclassical-style chapel was consecrated with the cemetery in 1878. The cemetery borders on St. Elisabeth Cemetery II; the wall that once separated the two cemeteries has been removed. The mausoleum of the Stange family from 1910 and the Felix Lohmann tomb from 1896 are listed buildings, as is the chapel. The grave of the actor Otto Gebühr (1877-1954) was listed as an honorary grave from 1990 to 2014; Gebühr was particularly famous for his portrayal of the Prussian King Frederick II, whom he played in 12 films from 1920 to 1942, including the propagandistic monumental film "The Great King" from 1942. There are 421 individual graves and a collective grave of 10 m² with victims of the Second World War in the cemetery. (Martin Bayer, 24.06.2020)
