The Turiner Straße cemetery, which now covers 1.5 hectares, was established in 1866 as the Müllerstraße garrison cemetery, primarily for civil servants and soldiers from the units stationed north of the Spree. The main entrance was once located on the aforementioned Müllerstraße. In 1950, the site was sold and built on. in 1957, the new entrance on Turiner Straße and the simple cemetery hall were built. The graves of zoo director Felix Freudemann (1859-1912), airship pilot Johannes Haase and physician general Friedrich Loeffler (1815-1875) can still be found here today. Close to the ceremonial hall is a memorial to the unification wars of 1866 and 1870/71, which was erected in 1889 but was inappropriately rededicated after the Second World War. Almost a third of the current area is occupied by a well-maintained war cemetery. 1,464 fallen soldiers from the First World War rest here. In addition, there are some fallen from the Second World War in family graves. (Martin Bayer, 24.06.2020)
