Total Occupation: 121 fatalities

The Protestant Magdalenen cemetery was designed as a park cemetery. The former grave of honor of the local politician and Rixdorf town elder Benjamin Niemetz (1853-1910) is located there. The new Magdalenenkirche was built in 1877 on what was then Bergstraße (now Karl-Marx-Straße) and opened on March 25, 1879. in 1917, the bells were removed and melted down for use in the war; these bells were replaced by steel bells in 1928. During the Second World War, only the church windows were destroyed. However, the baptismal font, which was created from part of a capital from the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, which was destroyed in the war, is a reminder of the war. More than 100 victims of the Second World War were buried in the cemetery, including in an 8 m² collective grave. (Martin Bayer, 20.04.2020)
