The Sophien parish in Berlin-Mitte laid out its first cemetery in 1713 right next to the Sophienkirche. The cemetery, which has since been converted into a park, covers 0.6 hectares. Some historical graves have been preserved, including the following graves of honor: - Friedrich Johann Koepjohann (1717-1792), master shipbuilder and benefactor (the inheritance was used to establish a poorhouse, among other things) - Leopold von Ranke (1796-1886), historian and co-founder of modern historical science - Carl Friedrich Zelter (1758-1832), self-taught musician, composer and conductor There are 33 graves of victims of the Second World War in Sophien Cemetery I.
