n the fall of 1944, part of the St. Georgen cemetery became a resting place for soldiers who had died in Bayreuth military hospitals. The air raids on April 5, 8 and 11, 1945 claimed many victims, who were also buried in St. Georgen. In 1951, the Volksbund began to expand the war cemetery, into which 184 soldiers from makeshift graves in the surrounding districts were buried. The inauguration took place on June 13, 1954.
