Bad Münstereifel

Bad Münstereifel war cemetery 477 German and 2 Polish war dead from the Second World War and 9 German war dead from the First World War are buried here. On the adjacent cemetery, 29 Russian war dead have found their final resting place. Most of those buried here succumbed to their wounds during the heavy fighting in the Hürtgen Forest in the military hospitals and on the main military base in Bad Münstereifel. The burials initially took place in the civilian cemetery before the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (German War Graves Commission) set up a separate war cemetery where the fallen from the cemeteries in the surrounding communities were also buried. The war dead lie in individual graves; four graves each have a common cross inscribed with two names on each side. The Bad Münstereifel war cemetery was dedicated on November 1, 1954 (All Saints' Day) by District President Dr. Wilhelm Warsch, Cologne, and handed over to the mayor of the town, Laurenz Frings. The church consecration was performed by senior pastor Dr. Edmund Rothkranz and pastor Ernst Glaubitt.
