Between the end of 1942 and 1946, almost half a million prisoners of war were brought to the United States on transport ships. Prisoners of war were also held in the USA during the First World War.

Every year on Remembrance Day, representatives of the consulates general lay wreaths in memory of the German soldiers who died as American prisoners of war.

In Atlanta-Georgia (Westview Cemetery) rest 4 war dead of the First World War.
