On April 20, 1945, the Landesschützenbataillon stationed in Arzberg put up considerable resistance against the advancing Americans. During the battle, 40 people, including civilians, lost their lives. 24 Landesschützen are buried in the collective grave in the town cemetery. After 1985, the Landesschütze Peter Schiebener was laid to rest in a field grave at the edge of the forest near the Flittermühle.
