The first dead to be buried in the forest cemetery, which was newly established in 1914, were prisoners of war of various nationalities from a prisoner-of-war camp. In addition, there were 51 German lazeret dead and those who had been repatriated. On February 22 and 23, 1945, 450 people lost their lives in bombing raids on the station district in Ansbach. 375 of them have their final resting place in mass graves in the forest cemetery. At the beginning of the 1980s, the site was renovated by the Volksbund with the support of the city and the state. Bronze crosses now mark the grave sites.
