Cemetery description

This municipal cemetery is located at Stralsunder Straße 14 and is bordered by a hedge. A cloister was planted with a hundred poplars, which further embellishes the already good location.

Burial

There are 22 war dead in individual graves and 164 war dead in collective graves. There is a war cemetery for the fallen of the First World War and a war cemetery for the fallen of the Second World War.

History

On June 11, 1817, the current cemetery was consecrated as a "new churchyard in Treptow an der Tollense" due to the growing population. This area, also known as Brinke, was located between the large stone and today's Stralsunder Straße. As the groundwater conditions here were very poor, most citizens had their deceased relatives buried opposite in the cemetery for the poor. This space soon became insufficient and an agreement was reached between the town and St. George's Hospital. This created the basis for today's cemetery.

Special feature

The first person to be buried there was Johann Friedrich Babe, master baker, town councillor and member of the Schützen zu Fuß.
