According to the information available to us, a total of 83 war dead rest in 3 cemeteries in this cemetery. 38 soldiers from the 1st World War died in the Alfeld military hospital or were transferred from war zones. 28 soldiers who died in the spring of 1945 during the final battles in the Alfeld area or who were transferred here after the end of the war, - 17 prisoners of war and forced labourers, mostly Polish and Soviet citizens, who died of illness, exhaustion and overwork due to the poor living and working conditions. The well-kept cemeteries are located in the front right-hand section of the cemetery. If you take the first entrance to the cemetery on Hildesheimer Str., the WW1 & WW2 cemeteries are immediately to the left and right behind the entrance. If you follow the path to the traffic circle and then keep half-left, you will reach the cemetery of forced labourers and prisoners of war after about 60 m, marked by a plaque. photos: Volker Fleig 2015
