War Graves Agreement

 

The War Graves Agreement was signed on 11.04.1995 and came into force on 26.09.1996. The Committee for Civil and Funeral Services of Uzbekistan was appointed as the partner of the Volksbund.

 

Losses

 

According to archive documents, there were 10 prisoner-of-war cemeteries where numerous deceased were buried. So far, 874 deceased prisoners of war are known by name.

 

Country planning to date

 

The survey that was carried out showed that two of the 10 prisoner-of-war cemeteries are located in the territory of the present Central Asian state of Kyrgyzstan. Of the remaining 8 cemeteries, only 5 still exist. The others were destroyed due to construction measures in the post-war period.

 

The five cemeteries were restored between 1997 and 2002 and are now under continuous maintenance.
