In the Far East, German soldiers died in 1914 during the fighting for the German base of Tsingtao, which was attacked by the Japanese, and on the small cruiser Emden near the Cocos Islands.
During the Second World War, German auxiliary cruisers and submarines were occasionally deployed in support of the Japanese ally, with bases in Japan and on Java. In Yokohama (Japan), the auxiliary cruiser Thor and two German supply ships were victims of an explosion that claimed numerous lives.
In addition, there are the graves of prisoners of war and of Germans who, as merchants, technicians or crew members of merchant ships, were surprised by the outbreak of war, both in 1914 and in 1939, and interned by the enemy abroad.
